JUNE 10th, 2026 - RARE USA GOLD HALF EAGLES THRU DOUBLE EAGLES

Hello All,

I hope all is well. This week everybody is in Baltimore hoping to buy rarities for our hungry buyers. This is no easy task as if you've been studying our list for any length of time you've noticed that you'll rarely see any common date coins on my list. While I had been into patterns and die trials long before being senior numismatist at the giant company in Texass, it was circa 1990 and nobody wanted to buy anything as the market for mostly commons was crashing with common date ms-65 morgan dollars collapsing and while the giant company had just finished eliminating the majority of its salesforce, nobody there expected to see a new face, mine, in the midst of this market malt-down. How bad was it? There were waiting lists for MS-65 generic morgan dollars for $1,000 bucks a pop. When it was all said and done they were below $100 bucks each. That's a meltdown. I was unable to save them but all was not lost.

I had what was called a random call one day from a fellow in Long Island NY and we chatted for quite some time. He seemed to appreciate my position in all of this as I never sold a generic morgan dollar, nor did he. I was into patterns and trial strikes while he was into early gold. What he owned and was quite proud of was a type set of early US Gold. From quarter eagle to eagle and he and I agreed to let me take a look. He shipped me the coins and when I received them it was company policy that I slip them thru this literal hole in the wall where the principles would make an offer. They did and the reaction from NY was " yeah well I sort of expected those guys to low-ball and play games" but I could tell you Tom would appreciate these so I wanted you to see them. The fight began when I told the principles the client is not interested please give them back to me so I can ship them back to the client. They did not do that. They returned instead with a higher offer. In a market where nobody was buying they suddenly became very competitive for these earlies and that was also a deciding factor in what direction I would also head in numismatically. It took me over a decade of being in the business to have finally found what would become a numismatic life change, the missing link. Never again would I buy commons unless in bulk or if sent on trade. One fellow sent me 500 raw double eagles to use as payment on rarities and that type of activity has never changed again. What coins would you really like to own that you don't right now and when do you think you might fill that hole in your collectors heart? The sooner the better I say!

Quick run thru this week a very scarce early New Orland half eagle of 1851 kicks off the new offering followed by a San Fran pre-Civil War half eagle that is uber rare and quite nice, next up a nearly impossible 1859 Eagle from the republic Shipwreck followed by a run of double eagles ranging from scarce to very rare. Please have a look and if you see what you like, send me an email or call.
